The electrohippies collective Project
The Free Range electrohippies collective Project concentrates on the right to protest and organise, the use of technologically mediated systems for networking, freedom of expression and communications, and virtual organising in support of community or individual campaigns. It developed out of the former "electrohippies" group which became infamous after the Seattle Protests in 1999, but has since focussed on activities that keep it out of the news due to the obstructive hassles that notariety creates.
Welcome to the electrohippies 'web presence'...
...we're not here at the moment, but if you read our stuff you can try to help yourself!At the moment we're still avoiding the limelight, primarily because we've found over the years that we can achieve far more 'behind the scenes' helping others than blowing our own trumpet.
If you'd like to learn more about us/about our past activities then please read the
World-view Overview page.
This provides background information, and some tacky videos, describing our origins and our
motivations. It also has a large numbers of links to the media coverage (both for and against)
our work, as well as links to our past occasional papers and communiqués.
To look into our murky past, we suggest that you peruse our various archive pages:
the
electrohippies 'Q-series' publications
these are our most recent publications, produced in co-operation with the Free Range Network;
An electrohippie's
World-view Overview
this is an historical account of the origins of the collective and the things we've been involved in;
Publications Archive
a collection of our work produced before 2009;
Coverage Archive
a list of links to various news articles (both critical and flattering) that have resulted from the work of the collective;
Videos Archive
a collection of videos, both our own and other people's, about the world of the collective.
Our present work/role
electrohippies now operates as the 'technical resources' section of the
Free Range Network. You can find our most recent publications, the Free
Range Q-series publications, in the
Free
Range Publications index.
The project that we're currently working on involves developing a "hacktivists toolkit" in essence, a collection of information and training resources on using the 'Net and computers 'safely', where possible avoiding unwanted attention from all those corporate and government agencies who seem to be so concerned about people trying to change the world. This builds on some work we developed about a decade ago for use in repressive regimes in former Soviet republics and African dictatorships. However, given recent events, it was clear that we needed to dust it off and reinvent it for campaign groups in the Western democracies!
We hope to launch the package towards the end of 2011 or early in 2012 come back and visit then. In the meantime if you've any burning issues you can email us via ehippies☮fraw.org.uk however, as we all really busy people we can't promise to reply!
