|Resource title||Reinventing Technology: Artificial Intelligence from the Top of a Sycamore Tree|
|Publication/ source||Institute for Communicating and Collaborative Systems|
|Date published||March 2006|
|Summary text/ abstract||I am a researcher in artificial intelligence, and I live in a tree. To be more precise, a treeÂsit, where a motley band of poets, primitivists, hippies, and anarchists are making the last stand to save a beautiful Caledonian glen from being bulldozed to make yet another road. This is a paradox at its heart: for artificial intelligence seems diametrically opposed to the natural intelligence embodied by living ecoÂsystems. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ultimate technologizing project: To reÂcreate human intelligence in the digital image of the computer, AI and technology in general seems to be at odds with any attempts to preserve nature and humanity.|
